Anatomically designed and profiled specifically for youth and younger riders, the all-new SM3 Youth is optimized for MX, Enduro and off-road use and features a whole host of technologies and innovations drawn from Alpinestars' adult helmet range to offer the optimal blend . of performance, protection and comfort. This lightweight helmet features a thermo-injected shell that incorporates a special blend of polymers enhanced by varying degrees of thickness, designed to offer the optimal combination of impact protection and lightness. Technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic in three sizes (Youth Small, Youth Medium and Youth Large. The SM3 Youth weighs 1060 g (ECE). The fit can be customized to the rider's head thanks to the crown and cheek pads of the helmet, available as genuine replacements in different thicknesses. The Youth Medium and Youth Large sizes share the same EPS sizing, which allows YM-sized riders to initially purchase a YM helmet and then configure it to a Youth Large size as they grow via crown and cheekpiece replacements. The Youth Small has a smaller EPS size and can only be customized using the cheek pads. Alpinestars Extensive research has shown that children wearing a YS size are very young, typically 3 to 4 years old, and therefore require a dedicated helmet fit. The multi-density inner lining ensures that the helmet is equipped with the correct density in the correct area for better impact absorption, while also helping to reduce overall weight. The internal and external surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts. Alpinestars patented low-friction liner is applied to the inside of the main EPS liner to reduce rotational acceleration forces that can result from certain oblique impacts. This layer essentially acts as a slip plane to mimic the brain's low-friction cerebrospinal fluid, which is the body's natural defense against oblique impacts. The patented visor release system ensures that the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, effectively reducing forces on the rider's neck during an impact. The Comfort liner is constructed using recycled materials for a lower carbon footprint.
Hydration tube channels are integrated into the helmet cheek pads for comfort and performance. Alpinestars introduced a standard for the SM3 Youth to test the chin of the helmet under heavier conditions than the homologation standard and to exceed the new Alpinestars standards, the thickness of the shell and the structure of the helmet design itself have both been optimized on the chin area for superior impact performance. Featuring an emergency release system and removable cheek pads to allow easy and safe removal of the cheek pads while the helmet is still worn, while the 3D contoured foam ensures rider comfort. The soft fabric chin strap is 25mm for optimal rider safety and comfort. Stainless steel D-rings ensure a snug and secure fit. The SM3 helmet complies with ECE 2206 approval for use worldwide.
